JR Hokkaido 737 Series - entering service on May 20, 2023
miyakoji posted a topic in Japan Rail: Pictures & VideosThe interesting looking 737 Series will enter service on May 20, 2023 on the Muroran Line between Tomakomai and Muroran. Hokkaido rolling stock often has a unique appearance I think, I assume it's considerations for the climate. This model's body is apparently painted, not a wrap. It's a very light pink, not white. My only criticism is that the configuration of the crew compartment doesn't look conducive to making front view videos 🙂 😐 ☹️ from JR Hokkaido's official YouTube channel

Class 9600 climbing the Tempoku Pass
miyakoji posted a topic in Japan Rail: Pictures & VideosFilmed in 1972 but set on the Nayoro Main Line of 1935, this is a dramatization of a Class 9600 trying to climb the Tempoku Pass. This section existed between Kami-Okoppe and Ichinohashi, and had a maximum grade of 25 permil. According to the notes at the beginning of the video, engine 49672 was scrapped after filming. Seven hundred seventy of this type were built between 1913 and 1926. Kawasaki Heavy Industries, then called Kawasaki Zosenjo (shipbuilding), built the most by far, 686. The locomotive shown here was one of 73 from 1920. Following Kawasaki, Kisha Seizo built 69, and JGR Kokura Works built 15. The last of the type was retired at the beginning of March 1976. The video was posted by tyokutoku (https://www.youtube.com/user/tyokutoku/videos), have a look at his channel for more great historical films. My South Hokkaido Railway/Esashi line modules
EH500 (12) posted a topic in Layout BuildingIn this thread I would like to document the progress on my module layout. After being bit by the japanese n-gauge bug I first started to collect some random locomotives but zeroed in on the Aomori/Seikan Tunnel/Goryokaku theme quite quickly, My initial plan was to build a shortend 1:1 copy of the Higahsi-Aomori freight yard, a simplyfied version of Goryokaku freight yard and a fully automated staging yard below the Aomori side filling a 4x4 meter room. But due to work and other stuff this never went beyond the planing stage for roughly 1 1/2 years. With the current wave of releases of trains for the south Hokkaido region I decided to build something smaller to run my trains on. So I looked at the Tsugaru and Esashi line and picked the later. For my project I decided on the area around Kattoshi cape. https://firstname.lastname@example.org,140.5995832,2767m/data=!3m1!1e3 Here I have marked the 6 areas I picked as reference for my modules. Of course I will not be able to recreate them 1:1 and I will have to shorten some parts and omit stuff here and there but I hope the end result will be a decent representation of the landmarks of this region. Every module will be 60x60cm. Here I have marked the location of the modules. The first two modules. Interesting points here are the bridge, the buildings and the typical japanese concrete walls to support slopes. Modules 3 and 4 will mainly consist of a woodland area. On the last two modules I hope to create a scene like in the video below, although Iam not sure if 120cm will be long enough for that.
