  1. Ex-JR 103 EMU series from Musashino Line, Japan start to scrap after operating in Jakarta, Indonesia. The first of 2 ex-JR 103 series trainsets that scrapped is E20 and E27. That trainset have scrapped near Cikaum Station. I've got a video record when the special train that delivery 2 ex-JR 103 trainsets go to Cikaum Station from Manggarai Train Service.

    Pesa Dart EMU design

Here is a maker I was not aware of, Pesa of Poland. This is their Dart HSR design, initially tested for 160km/h max. operational speed. I like how the side profile is similar to Japanese rolling stock designs with open space visible in the underframes, rather than the skirting favored by the big three. Where does this maker slot in in terms of price point in the world rolling stock market?
  3. Intriguing development: http://www.financialexpress.com/article/economy/railways-floats-r2500-crore-tender-for-high-speed-train-sets/93836/ I wonder if the Japanese rolling stock builders will leverage their experience of building emu sleeper trains (285 series and antecedent designs) to gain a marketing advantage.

Possibly of interest to our Netherlands-based forumers and others in that neck of the woods: http://www.4-traders.com/MITSUBISHI-ELECTRIC-CORPO-6491287/news/Mitsubishi-Electric--to-supply-Traction-System-for-NS-New-Generation-Sprinter-EMUs-20439438/ Mitsubishi press release (Japanese): http://www.mitsubishielectric.co.jp/news/2015/pdf/0527.pdf *didn't know about Mitsubishi's role in the modernization of the ICE-2 units: http://www.mitsubishielectric.com/news/2014/0925-b.html
  5. Anyone know what this old EMU is that I photographed today at the JRW works next to Hatabu Station? Was next to scrapping area so may not be around for much longer?
  6. Just saw this linked on Ompuchaneru. A new express EMU for JR Shikoku, but it doesn't tilt like the 8000 series. Looks a bit like a British Rail design, particularly the 350, as mentioned in the discussion. Not bad. This illustrations are often quite accurate, but I'll wait to see the real thing. On this page, click the link for the pdf, it has the illustration: http://www.jr-shikoku.co.jp/03_news/press/13-11-25/01.htm from this thread on Ompuchaneru: http://rail-uploader.khz-net.com/index.php?id=1124914
